It's the KALW On-Air Folk Festival this Saturday from 3 to 8 pm--our musical extravaganza features five hours of continuous live music by some of the Bay Area's finest talent! Hosted by JoAnn Mar, Kevin Vance, and Peter Thompson.

3:00 pm    The Pacific Boychoir is led by director and founder Kevin Fox.  The Pacific Boychoir Academy is the only United States boychoir school outside of the East Coast.  The choir's repertoire includes classical, African freedom songs, Afro-American spirituals, and world music.

Listen to "Folk Music & Beyond" this Saturday at 3 pm for live performance by singer Chris Webster and guitarist Nina Gerber.  The soulful vocals of Chris in combination with Nina's exquisite guitar playing give their songs a special resonance and power, from gut-wrenching ballads to gentle ballads.  Chris and Nina have been performing together for the last 25 years and they'll perform a few songs from their new duo recording "Apple Blossom Lane."

From his humble beginnings in rural Scotland, Dougie MacLean has achieved great success in the world of Scottish folk and traditional music.  His recent honors include the OBE (Order of the British Empire) and induction into the Scottish Music Hall of Fame.  This Saturday at 3 pm on Folk Music & Beyond, we'll celebrate Dougie MacLean's 40th anniversary in music.  Dougie will talk about his close connection with the land and family and we'll hear some of Dougie's most evocative songs.

Folk singer extraordinaire John McCutcheon returns to the KALW studios this Saturday (1/11) at 3 pm for the start of his left coast tour in the Bay Area.  John will sing a few songs from his latest CD "22 Days", a tribute to Sarajevo cellist Vedran Smailovic.

Misner & Smith will follow John at 4 pm—the local duo of Sam Misner and Megan Smith.  They'll perform songs from their new CD "Seven Hour Storm."

Folk Music & Beyond presents award-winning songwriter-storyteller David Francey from Canada this Saturday August 4th 3:00 pm.  David performed recently at a Bay Area house concert with Mark Westberg on guitar.  He shares his compelling and heartfelt songs, along with his funny and entertaining stories.

KALW's Saturday music hosts join forces to present a five-hour folk extravaganza of continuous live music performed  by some of the Bay Area's finest talent.   Enjoy the Scottish fiddling of Alasdair Fraser, the powerhouse vocals of Teresa Trull and Barbara Higbie, the original songs of Caren Armstrong, and the homegrown bluegrass of Them Boys and the Sycamore Slough String Band.  Here's the schedule:
