It's the KALW On-Air Folk Festival this Saturday from 3 to 8 pm--our musical extravaganza features five hours of continuous live music by some of the Bay Area's finest talent! Hosted by JoAnn Mar, Kevin Vance, and Peter Thompson.

3:00 pm    The Pacific Boychoir is led by director and founder Kevin Fox.  The Pacific Boychoir Academy is the only United States boychoir school outside of the East Coast.  The choir's repertoire includes classical, African freedom songs, Afro-American spirituals, and world music.

Listen to "Folk Music & Beyond" this Saturday at 3 pm for live performance by singer Chris Webster and guitarist Nina Gerber.  The soulful vocals of Chris in combination with Nina's exquisite guitar playing give their songs a special resonance and power, from gut-wrenching ballads to gentle ballads.  Chris and Nina have been performing together for the last 25 years and they'll perform a few songs from their new duo recording "Apple Blossom Lane."

The great Canadian singer-songwriter Bruce Cockburn was our special guest on "Folk Music & Beyond" this past Saturday.  Bruce talked about his new autobiography "Rumours of Glory" and his early days as a struggling musician.  This candid conversation covered his personal growth as a compelling singer-songwriter and his evolution as a humanist Christian and political activist.  If you missed all or any part of this program, you can listen back to it in its entirety via KALW's Local Music Player.  The program is archived for one week following the broadcast.

"Folk Music & Beyond" welcomes back singer-songwriter John Gorka, returning to the KALW studios after a long absence.  This Saturday at 3 pm, John will perform a few songs from his new recording "Bright Side Of Down", a meditation on aging and mortality and the changing of the seasons.

Dougie MacLean's 40th!

From his humble beginnings in rural Scotland, Dougie MacLean has achieved great success in the world of Scottish folk and traditional music.  His recent honors include the OBE (Order of the British Empire) and induction into the Scottish Music Hall of Fame.  This Saturday at 3 pm on Folk Music & Beyond, we'll celebrate Dougie MacLean's 40th anniversary in music.  Dougie will talk about his close connection with the land and family and we'll hear some of Dougie's most evocative songs.
